THIS COURSE DELVES INTO THE VALUE OF "RESPONSIBILITY" IN DENTISTRY, AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOUR FUTURE AS A DENTIST FOR YEARS TO COME.

With over four decades working alongside a committed and hard-working dental team, Dr. Schlossberg is well-versed in the reality of day-to-day operations in a dental practice. Being a practicing dentist requires a diligent approach to maintaining assets which includes not only their own dental equipment and supplies, but “intangible” assets such as their patient base and social networks. To ensure your success in all aspects, whether as an associate or practice owner, you will need to become familiar with these strategies:

WORK TOGETHER WITH YOUR STAFF

While this may sound obvious, many dentists do not take the time to fully understand their office staff, assistants, hygienists, etc. Everyone in a clinic may have their own reasons to work there, but at the end of the day you are all contributing to the overall success or failure of the dental practice. Learn how to motivate yourself in addition to your team members and cooperate with them to deliver an experience that your patients will look forward to rather than dread.

ESTABLISH WHAT "CARE" MEANS

Handling responsibilities is learned in both life and in business. In dentistry, you, the dentist, oversee many responsibilities, such as your colleagues, the business of the practice, and most critically, your patients’ health – which is more than just about oral health. You must learn how to care for their teeth as well as care about their personalities, comfort level, etc. In other words, you need to build relationships to ensure they feel good about coming back to you!

FIGURE OUT WHAT MOTIVATES YOU!

Different people are motivated in their careers by different things, and for a dentist that motivation is significant as you will be seeing many patients throughout your lifetime. If you lack enthusiasm or professionalism, chances are they won't feel like seeing you again. Whether it's learning new skills, helping patients, or providing care for a community, identifying this will push your dental journey forward and keep your ultimate objectives within reach.

SENIOR DENTAL STUDENTS, GRADUATES, NEW DENTAL ASSOCIATES OR PRACTICE OWNERS LOOKING TO ESTABLISH THEMSELVES WILL LEARN ABOUT:

  • the management factors that are involved in being a part of a dental practice, either as an associate or practice owner
  • what assets a dentist is responsible for handling in their clinic
  • how to handle said assets properly and organize office staff around them
  • defining objectives in their dental career that will motivate them to continue practicing and developing their dental skills
  • how to work together with colleagues and office staff to provide professional levels of care and quality dental services
  • the best methods to manage day-to-day operations in a clinical setting
