DO YOU WANT TO PURSUE THE CONVENTIONAL DENTAL PRACTITIONER ROUTE, BUT YOU'RE NOT SURE WHERE TO START?

The next step in Dr. Richard Schlossberg's course series brings us to another set of choices and challenges surrounding how one should actually begin their dental career. The following routes will be discussed:

START OUT AS AN ASSOCIATE DENTIST

Whether because of your budget, lack of experience, comfort level, or connections, being an associate is a fairly standard and safe option to begin your dental career. However, depending on the practice and you are in and its reach, you may not have many opportunities to grow in the long term. Dr. Schlossberg will discuss how to make the most out of your time as an associate.

PURCHASE AN EXISTING PRACTICE

If you have the budget and initial amount of funds to do so, you may opt to purchase an existing dental practice, including patients, from a dentist who is on their way out and looking to sell to you. However, this is not as easy as it sounds! In fact, there may be more pressure on you due to expectations that patients had from the previous owner and their level of care.

BUILD A NEW DENTAL PRACTICE

Similarly to purchasing an existing practice, you will need money and a solid grasp of business fundamentals if you want to be the owner of your own dental practice. Your success will depend entirely on your skills as a dentist as well as a professional service provider, salesperson, and team manager. You will have to accommodate both staff and patients' needs.

SENIOR DENTAL STUDENTS, GRADUATES, OR WEll-EXPERIENCED ASSOCIATES LOOKING TO BECOME PRACTICE OWNERS WILL LEARN ABOUT:

  • what options to choose depending on budget and available capital
  • how to choose the right kind of dental practice to suit short and long term goals
  • when to best join, start, or open a dental practice in terms of age, time of year, etc.
  • where a dental practice should be located in
  • why a dental practice's location will depend on a variety of factors
  • the importance of mutual success through working as a team in a dental practice
